Engineering Design
MEPCO’s multidisciplinary engineering design sector provides coordinated, high-performance detailed designs across high-voltage (HV) and extra-high-voltage (EHV) substations, transmission lines, industrial distribution networks, power generation facilities, pump stations, and building MEP services. We bridge analytical power system studies with practical on-site constructability.

Technical Scope & Engineering Capabilities
MEPCO Engineering Projects brings specialized domain knowledge, rigorous modeling standards, and practical site experience to every assignment. Our scope covers:
- HV and EHV Substations Design: Comprehensive primary and secondary engineering for AIS and GIS substations up to 500 kV, including equipment layouts, single-line diagrams, protection and control schematics, cable trenching, earthing mats, and civil/structural coordination.
- HV and EHV Transmission Lines Design: Line routing, conductor and optical ground wire (OPGW) selection, tower spotting, profile drawings, insulator string selection, sag-tension calculations, and substation interface spans.
- LV and MV Distribution Design: Medium-voltage ring distribution networks (11 kV – 33 kV), package substations, low-voltage distribution switchboards, motor control centers (MCC), cable raceway routing, and emergency generator systems.
- Conventional & Renewable Power Plants Design: Electrical Balance of Plant (EBoP), generator step-up transformers (GSU), auxiliary unit power distribution, synchronization interfaces, and plant grid interconnections.
- Utilities & Building Services Design: Pumping stations, wastewater treatment plant power and control, fire alarm and firefighting hydraulic design, plumbing, piping, HVAC systems, interior/exterior lighting, and light current telecommunications.
Software Platforms & Computational Tools
Design & Drafting: AutoCAD, Autodesk Revit MEP, Navisworks for 3D clash detection.
Calculations & Photometrics: DIALux Evo for interior and roadway lighting simulations, Carrier HAP for HVAC thermal load calculations, hydraulic calculation software for firefighting networks.
Applicable Standards & Grid Codes
Engineering Standards: IEC, IEEE, NFPA 13/14/20/72/2001, ASHRAE, SMACNA, IPC, UPC, and local utility regulations.
Methodology & Project Delivery Workflow
Our engineering delivery aligns with MEPCO’s structured 6-stage project execution framework, ensuring quality throughout input verification, design modeling, and client handover:
- Stage 01 — Scope & Criteria Definition: Establish study boundaries, utility tie-in data, single-line diagrams, and client objectives.
- Stage 02 — Data Audit & Modeling Assumptions: Collect, verify, and validate manufacturer datasheets, impedance tolerances, and site operating configurations.
- Stage 03 — Simulation Model Development: Build detailed, validated mathematical digital models in specialized power software.
- Stage 04 — Computational Analysis & Verification: Execute base-case and contingency scenarios, conducting rigorous internal peer reviews.
- Stage 05 — Client Review & Approval: Present study findings, address technical comments, and participate in technical clarification sessions.
- Stage 06 — Final Handover: Deliver formal certified engineering reports, executive summaries, and native simulation model files.
